International exhibition “Parcel to Kyrgyzstan”
25 march – 10 April 2008

March 25,  at 17.00 – Official opening

The exhibition “Parcel to Kyrgyzstan” presents contemporary artworks of 250 European artists from Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, USA, Israel, Hungary, etc. All the works are united by a single theme, “Utopia of Space”, and were sent to Kyrgyzstan in parcels.

The “parcel” format, combined with the chosen theme of the exhibition, will show a unique and unusual side of contemporary European art. Visitors will see many forms of contemporary art: painting, photo-art, video-art, as well as performance art from Barbara Caveng, Swiss artist and initiator of different international projects.

Almost all the works on display were created especially for this exhibition.

In the frames of the exhibition you will also see the creative works of 15 young Kyrgyz artists, who attended seminars for four months and participated in a workshop on the theme “Utopia of Space”. This workshop provided participants with a forum for discussions on art, science and society, for example: how art relates to society; how to draw attention to and reach understanding among groups of people who have nothing in common with modern arts; what are the alternatives to existing exhibition spaces; what does art have in common with such science as sociology, ethnology, philosophy and physics.

The aim of the workshop is to encourage young artists to formulate their ideas, forward critical questions and express their individuality through artistic works.  It will also help and encourage other young Kyrgyz artists and be an eye-opener for possibilities of implementing their own projects.
